The color palette is a feature of the Scratch Paint Editor which allows a variety of colors to be chosen for use on the canvas. There are two color pickers (or palettes): the basic and advanced. The pen color palette supports only 200 colors.
Supported Values
The color palette supports the following values:
- color
- saturation
- shade
Prior to Scratch 2.0, it only supported color and shade.
Switching Between Palettes
Near the bottom-left of the color palette is a medium-sized icon to switch over to the other palette. This icon resembles the palette that will be switched to.
Basic Color Palette
The basic color palette is limited to 56 colors to select from. However, it includes seven gray-scale colors, which can be difficult to achieve through the advanced palette. To select a color, simply click on it.
One of the colors that the advanced palette does not support is transparency, which is no color at all. In Scratch, transparent parts of a costume are see-through. To select transparency, click on the white box with the red slash in the top-right of the palette.
Advanced Color Palette
The advanced color palette has tens of thousands of combinations to select from. The shade bar is separate from the palette of saturation and color. To choose a color, simply click on the desired one, and drag the shade slider if needed.
