This template is used to identify a stub, a page that is short for the wiki's standards.

Usage

Typing stub produces the message shown at the top, and adds the article to the following category:

What is a stub?

Main page: Scratch Wiki:Stub

A stub is an article containing only a few sentences of text which is too short to provide encyclopaedic coverage of a subject.

If an article is still short, but long enough not to be a stub, expand should be used instead.

How is a stub identified?

  • Place a stub template at the very beginning of the article. As usual, templates are added by including their name inside double braces, e.g. stub.

Example

Stub

Document stub.png This article is a stub. It may be broken, incomplete, unfinished, or have missing parts/sections. If you can help expand this article, please help! There might be suggestions on its talk page.

Example

Some example usages are:

Template Result

9
39
Warning Note: When encountering problems, like when the template shows {}, you must place it as a property in the parameter "1". Therefore, 8 turns into . This forces the template to show all the text. If you see {}, place it as a property in the parameter "2". 8 can turn into .

Documentation Template documentation

Usage

This template can be used to make a standard navigation box. It is intended for use within another template that standardizes the title and contents of the box. In general, it SHOULD NOT be used directly within articles, as it creates a maintenance burden to do so whenever the contents of the box have to be updated.

The purpose of this template is to standardize certain attributes of all navigation boxes, for example, their colors and other CSS attributes. While at the moment the template is simple, in the future it could be extended to add other features. Using this template now allows changes like this to be implemented much quicker and easier than editing each template separately.

Syntax

  • Groups: Currently, the maximum number of groups allowed is 15.
    • Groups of items can be added as parameters: group1, group2, group3, ... up to groupN.
  • Group title: Each group has its own title parameter: gtitle1, gtitle2, gtitle3, ... up to gtitleN. Note that the default width for the first column is 15%.
  • Group style: Style may also be customized to each group in: style1, style2, style3, ... up to styleN.
  • Note that neither the title nor the items have any wiki-links built into the template. As a result, users of the template are free to use wiki-links as they wish.
  • Line breaks: Line-breaks (<br />) are unnecessary, as text wrapping is done automatically by the template. This also includes links and text in gtitleN and groupN.
  • Pipe links: Because of the nature of template syntax, it may be necessary to use Template:! () in place of actual pipes between items, otherwise the template will ignore text after the first pipe.
  • Bullets: It is highly recommended that Template:* () be used instead. This adds a bullet () instead of a pipe.

States

  • Autocollapse: By default, the state of a navbox is "autocollapsed". This means that if the number of navboxes in a page exceeds the maximum allocation of the collapsible navboxes, then the remaining navboxes are collapsed automatically. For more information (or to change the setting), see MediaWiki:Common.js.
    • Currently, the autocollapse allocation is 2 (see MediaWiki:Common.js). This means that if there are 3 navboxes in a page, the third and subsequent navboxes will be collapsed automatically.
  • Uncollapsed: Forces the navbox to be displayed.
    • All of the navboxes in this documentation are in the uncollapsed state.
  • Collapsed: The reverse of uncollapsed. Forces the navbox to be hidden instead.
    • Navboxes with a height of more than 300 pixels will also be collapsed automatically. For more information (or to change the setting), see MediaWiki:Common.js.
  • Plain: Removes the "show/hide" link.

Sub-groups

  • For larger navboxes, it may be necessary to include sub-groups within a particular group of items. This template allows the creation of sub-groups within navbox, provided that certain parameters are included:
    • The nested navbox (sub-group) requires the inclusion of the sub-group parameter (subgroup = Yes). This enables the template to differentiate between the nested and the parent navbox.
    • The parent navbox group (i.e. group2 in the example below) requires the style parameter (style2 = padding:0). This fixes the "padding" bug that occurs when sub-groups are used.

Syntax

Examples

Use of style; without group title

{{navbox
| name = Title
| title = Title
| style1 = text-align:center
| group1 = Item1 (link) Item2 (link) Item3 (link) Item4 (link) Item5 (link)

(Edit) Wiki: test Page name: Template:Namespace detect/doc Edit type: create Section num: 0 Text:

Documentation Template documentation

This is the namespace detect meta-template.

It helps other templates detect what type of page they are on.

It detects and groups all the different namespaces used on the Scratch Wiki into several types:

main = Main/article space, as in normal Scratch Wiki articles.
talk = Any talk space, such as page names that start with "Talk:", "User talk:", "File talk:" and so on.
user, ScratchWiki, file, mediawiki, template, help, category = The other namespaces except the talk pages.
other = Any namespaces that were not specified as a parameter to the template. See explanation below.

For backwards compatibility this template also understands the old name image for file. But using image is now deprecated.

Usage

This template takes one or more parameters named after the different page types as listed above. Like this:

If the template is on a main (article) page, it will return this:

Article text

If the template is on any other page than an article or a talk page it will return this:

Other pages text

The example above made the template return something for all page types. But if we don't use the other parameter or leave it empty then it will not return anything for the other page types. Like this:

On any pages other than file and category pages the code above will render nothing.

By using an empty parameter you can make it so the template doesn't render anything for some specific page type. Like this:

The code above will render nothing when on mainspace (article) pages, but will return this when on other pages:

Other pages text

Demospace and page

For testing and demonstration purposes this template can take two parameters named demospace and page.

Demospace understands any of the page type names used by this template, including the other type. It tells the template to behave like it is on some specific type of page. Like this:

No matter on what kind of page the code above is used it will return this:

Article text

The page parameter instead takes a normal pagename. It makes this template behave exactly as if on that page. The pagename doesn't have to be an existing page. Like this:

No matter on what kind of page the code above is used it will return this:

User page text

It can be convenient to let your template understand the demospace and/or page parameter and send it on to the namespace detect template. Then do like this:

{{namespace detect
| main = Article text
| other = Other pages text
| demospace = {}
| page  = {}
}}

If both the demospace and page parameters are empty or undefined then the template will detect page types as usual.

Parameters

List of all parameters:

{{namespace detect
| main =
...
| other =
| demospace = {} / main / talk / user /
              scratchwiki / file / mediawiki / template /
              help / category / other
| page = {} / User:Example
}}

Note: Empty values to the "main" ... "category" parameters have special meaning.

Usage

When a page has this template, then scratch wiki users have suggested to change the title of the page. A reason of why the page should be moved can sometimes be found on the template itself, or in the page's talk page. To prevent automatic categorization of the page the template is on, add the parameter |cat=no at the end of the template.

Use the syntax The suggested page to move the page to, such as Scratch, the page Scratch as an example for where to move the page. A page can be only moved to a new title, that is, a non-existing page. To 'merge' the contents of a page with another page, see the template Merge.

Reason: Inaccurate title

This navbox template should be placed at the bottom of the page, but above the page's category. It is placed on pages that talk about different Motion Blocks in Scratch, such as the Set Y to () block.

Example

If on Edge, Bounce (block)

The If on Edge, Bounce block is a Motion Block and a Stack Block. The block checks to see if its sprite is touching the edge of the screen with the move steps block — and if it is, the sprite will point in a direction that mirrors the direction from which it is coming.

Usage

When a page's contents can be added to another page, use this template. This template should not be confused with the similar template Move. Place this template on pages that could be deleted, with its information added to another page. This template will automatically categorize pages into the Merge Request category; to prevent automatic categorization, add the |cat=no parameter into the template.

Example

Apple

An apple is a type of fruit closely related to the pear. It is round and red, yellow, or green. It has a stem.

This will make any page have the first letter lowercase, such as "Go to x: " to "go to x: ", or "User:Veggieman001" to "User:veggieman001".

This uses , which is a magic word on the MediaWiki software. The display title must be the same, however, you can add stuff like <span> and the case does not have to be the same.

Example

On a page called All lowercase title:
__NOEDITSECTION__

This page has an all lowercase title.

Usage

This template creates an alphabetical TOC for list pages. This template does not automatically create headers and sort list items into them. Wiki users should make headers first in alphabetical order, sort items under each header, then add this template to the top of the page. This template should only be placed on alphabetically sorted lists, not unsorted lists. You can prevent the page this template is placed on from being categorized, by adding the |cat=no parameter to the template.

Example

(Edit) Wiki: test Page name: Template:Key press/doc Edit type: create Section num: 0 Text:

Documentation Template documentation

This is the key press template, which can be used to illustrate keystrokes. Typographically it works best with examples that are separated from the normal flow of text, e.g. in table cells. It can also be used in lists (as in this page), but it may be a good idea to add an empty line between each list item, so the key borders won't overlap each other.

Example:

A produces A

Keystroke combinations

To illustrate keystroke combinations, just use extra parameters:

Alt produces Alt+P
Ctrl produces Ctrl+Alt+Del

This template currently handles up to 5 key name parameters; more than enough to accommodate for any possible combined key stroke. If it gets too many key name parameters it will give an error message. Here's an example for the iOS word-typing combo for "ABCDEF":

produces A+B+C+D+EToo many keys!

When you feed several key names to this template, it adds a "+" with no spaces around. This means it won't line wrap. But when you show key combinations for instance in a table then that might cause too wide items. Then instead manually build the key combination with spaces around the "+" so it can line wrap. Like this:

Ctrl + Alt + Del produces Ctrl + Alt + Del

On the other hand, to illustrate Windows Alt codes you might want to use separate templates with no intervening punctuation or space. In most Windows systems in North America and Western Europe, for example, the plus-minus sign (±) can be entered by holding down the Alt key while typing 0177 (with the numeric keypad). This could be illustrated like this:

Alt177 produces Alt+0177

Wiki characters

Some wiki markup characters, like the pipe symbol, the semicolon and the equals sign, need to be entered using the , and templates:

produces |
produces ;
produces =

Key symbols

Some key names have a fitting unicode character. This template automatically adds such "icons" to the following key names:

Caps Lock produces ⇪ Caps Lock
Shift produces ⇧ Shift
Enter produces ↵ Enter
Tab produces Tab ⇆
Backspace produces ← Backspace
Cmd produces ⌘ Cmd
Opt produces ⌥ Opt
Up produces
Down produces
Left produces
Right produces

There are no characters for the Windows key and Menu key. Besides, the Windows logo is a registered trademark. So this template shows approximate characters for them in the following way:

Win produces ⊞ Win
Menu produces ≣ Menu

Technical details

This template calls , which holds the code that otherwise would be repeated several times in key press, thus simplifying the code.

Due to MediaWiki restrictions, article names cannot have the symbols #, <, >, [, ], |, {, or }. Also, article titles that start with a lower case letter are disallowed. Usage

This template is to standardize the templates on the Scratch Wiki. This is to prevent templates that look different from one another. One can use this template to make new templates, or use it as a guide to how the new template should look.

Syntax

This template has four parameters, which are all optional (default may not suit the use of the template, though):

positional parameter number 1

The file image for the template. produces

File too big.png This is a "meta-template" used to standardize other templates. The first argument is usually an image, the second is the text. The bgColor param allows a background color to be set, and borderColor, a border color.

Usage

This template marks sentences in the Scratch Wiki that may not be correct. This template is used like citation needed. This equation turns text that a user specifies into italicized text. This simulates the text of math equations. Note that this template will not evaluate the expression for you (in which case, see Help:Calculation).

Example

Some example usages are:

about is a commonly used hatnote on the Scratch Wiki, and so should be placed at the top of an article, linking the reader to articles with similar titles or concepts that they may have been seeking instead.

Usage

Warning Note: When used in the main namespace, the word "user" in the following example notes is replaced by "article".
  • USE1
This user is about USE1. For other uses, see InterwikiBot/Proposed Edits (disambiguation).
  • USE1 (When the disambiguation page has a different name — Note the empty second parameter)
This user is about USE1. For other uses, see PAGE2.

This user is about USE1. For USE2, see PAGE2.
  • (Two pages for USE2)

  • (When there are up to five other uses — You should generally create a disambiguation page at this point)
This user is about USE1. For USE2, see PAGE2. For USE3, see PAGE3. For USE4, see PAGE4. For USE5, see PAGE5.
  • (When there are several standard other uses and also a disambiguation page with default name — Note that the last page name is not specified)
This user is about USE1. For USE2, see PAGE2. For USE3, see PAGE3. For other uses, see InterwikiBot/Proposed Edits (disambiguation).

The * template is used to add bullets (example: ) by substituting &bull; automatically.

Usage

The recommended usage is to use spaces before and after the template.

Move () Steps Turn () Degrees

The template renders one space on each side of the bullet. Move () Steps Turn () Degrees

For long dotted lists each list item can be put on its own line, with spaces between each item and the template.

Move () Steps
Turn () Degrees
Point in Direction ()
Point Towards ()
Go to X: () Y: ()

As before, the template renders one space on each side of the bullets. Move () Steps Turn () Degrees Point in Direction () Point Towards () Go to X: () Y: ()

When the list is too long and line breaks, the class "nowraplinks" should be used.

<div class="nowraplinks">
Move () Steps Turn () Degrees Point in Direction () Point Towards () Go to X: () Y: () Go to () Glide () Secs to X: () Y: () Change X by () Set X to () Change Y by () Set Y to () If on Edge, Bounce
</div>

Using "nowraplinks" forces the line break to come after one of the bullets.

(Edit) Wiki: test Page name: Template:Navbox Edit type: create Section num: 0 Text:
