The Collab Challenge was a challenge where a group of Scratchers (a collaboration) must create a project using three images given by the Scratch Team.
The challenge was announced on January 12, 2011.[1]
Some Scratchers want it to be held twice a year; once in the summer and once in the winter.[2]
The Aim
The point of the Collab Challenge is to first of all to encourage Scratchers to work together as part of a team, which is one of the main goals of Scratch itself, and also to encourage Scratchers to be imaginative, also a main goal of Scratch.
Collab Challenge 2011
This is the only Collab Challenge that has taken place.
The three images that had to be used in the project in 2011 were:
How it Worked
In 2011, Scratchers had to form a group and register. The first version of the project had to be submitted before February 16, though two extra days were eventually allowed. Once ready, the Scratch Team gave each Collab Challenge-project feedback — the groups would use the feedback to improve their projects for the Scratch Team to see again on March 4. Finally, the projects were featured sometime around March 9.
Rules
- Each collaboration must have at least two Scratchers
- Only one project may be submitted
- The name of the collab and a list of members must be included in the project notes
- The first version must be submitted by February 9, 2011
- The final version must be submitted by March 9, 2011
Submitting Projects
One member of a collab posts a link to their collab's project on the Scratch Collab Challenge Gallery, and if it fits the requirements, a member of the Scratch Team will add it.
Other Information
As long as the project follows the Community Guidelines and the rules of the challenge, any kind of project can be submitted, whether it be animation, game, mathematical, etc. Members of a collab can keep in contact with each other through galleries, through the Collab Challenge 2011 forum or by their own means. The front paged projects will be chosen for their:
- Originality
- Creativity
- Elegance
- Sophistication (programming-wise)
Collab Challenge 2011 Forum
This is a forum on the main forums, that is all about the challenge. It is where people can keep in contact about their collab, ask people to join a collab, ask about the challenge or discuss it. The forum is under the Inspiration and More section of the forums, and does not have a description.
It is available here.
Ending
On March 14, 2011, the results were released. The user Collab-Challenge was selected as curator and showed the winning projects in the curator slot.
