Welcome! Before you get started I must instruct you in the way that this wiki works. First, please read either (or both) of the following:

• The English wiki Welcome tutorial - much more beginner-friendly, gets you started with wikitext syntax, has stuff specifically related to the Scratch Wikis. (Recommended if you can read this sentence without Google Translate)
• MediaWiki help pages - translated into many languages, probably including yours, and describes how wikis work in general. (Recommended if you need something in your own language)

Next, heed the following instructions:

Your focus for now will be translating pages from English to Hindi. You should not worry about creating any pages specific to the Hindi wiki yet; instead, focus on translating.
When creating a page to be translated, you must follow the steps below. Let's say you want to translate the page Eng:Blocks. According to Google Translate, "blocks" in Hindi is "ब्लाकों".

1. Create the page Hin:ब्लाकों.
   • The contents of the page must be copied from the Eng: page.
   • Make sure that the page has {{:Eng:Blocks/translate}} at the top.
2. Edit the page Eng:Blocks/translate
   • If there is already a line that looks like |Hin=, change it to |Hin=ब्लाकों
   • If not, add the line |Hin=ब्लाकों just before the line that looks like }}
3. Start translating any English text into Hindi.
   • When linking to other pages, always link with Hin: before the page name
   • When using translated templates, always transclude with Hin/ before the template name
   • When categorizing pages, always categorize with Hin/ before the category name

While you are doing all this, start looking on Scratch for more people to help you - editing a wiki is not a one-man job.

Ummmmm, what.

Have you seen "Motu Patlu", "D se Dab" and "Types of Samosas"? Since youre Indian and I guess you will clearly know these things. Nickelodeon India is not a good thing.--Scratchtheguy1! (talk) 20:10, 6 February 2026 (UTC)

An update on the Hindi Wiki

Hi,

I and a few of the other admins have been keeping an eye on the activity of the Hindi Wiki and just wanted to let you know our observations and recommendations going forward.

First, the good:

• The pace of edits is good. We're seeing a good number of major edits per week, which is on a par with most of the other non-English Wikis.
• The quality of the edits also seems to be good. I have looked at a random sampling of pages with Google Translate and they are generally in keeping with the standards we expect for a Wiki.

But that being said, there are a few things that can be improved:

• The large majority of edits are just coming from you, Arya50, SPS32, and Intelgeneration.
• There are still some gaps in terms of the amount of Scratch content covered by the existing pages.

So, based on that, here are the recommendations going forward:

• Keep the current pace and quality of edits going.
• Try to attract more users and ensure that new users remain active for more than just a short period of time. Also please make sure users requesting read and follow the instructions listed at Special:RequestAccount as we have rejected a number of requests (both in Hindi and other languages) for not following them.
• Do your best to fill in the gaps for subject matter not already covered. We of course don't expect you to be as comprehensive as the English Wiki (which has had a 10+ year head start and a much larger community of editors), but do your best to make sure you fill all the major areas.

You also asked me on my profile about Wiki Wednesday, and I just want to let you know that the situation is largely out of my control. I'm trying to reach out but not getting a response. I'll submit another one for February within the next few days (please post on the Wiki forum topic which article you would like featured), but please be aware I can't make any guarantees about it actually getting posted.

Thank you (both to you and the other Hindi Wiki contributors) for your contributions towards documenting Scratch, and keep up the good work!

Hi,thanks for the updates. Yeah,you're right that some of the wikians are not active,mainly because of exams this month(even I am slightly inactive due to that). We would try our best and ensure that the activity is maintained and more wikians come and join the team. I've have talked to 2-3 wikians regarding this and they said they would again start contributing in March. But I have one question. I didn't get what you want to tell by this line"There are still some gaps in terms of the amount of Scratch content covered by the existing pages." and "Do your best to fill in the gaps for subject matter not already covered. We of course don't expect you to be as comprehensive as the English Wiki (which has had a 10+ year head start and a much larger community of editors), but do your best to make sure you fill all the major areas." ? Could you please explain this a bit? Rest we are already doing and hopefully we would get a postive response from our team members.

By that I basically just mean continue creating pages to make sure you have pages for all the things people are likely to go to Scratch for. For a few random examples (this is not intended to be an exhaustive list, I just looked at the list of pages in the Hin namespace and noted a few things I see missing), I don't see pages on cloud data, custom blocks, the forums, etc. To be clear I am not saying that these all need to be created and fleshed out right away, just that making sure you have important concepts such as those covered.

The ones I provided were just intended as a few examples. I don't have a full comprehensive list, nor do I have the time to create one. I am more just saying you should make sure to aim towards having good breadth of content rather than trying to give an exhaustive list. I also am aware that this is something that doesn't happen overnight and takes time, and we are not going to hold you to any specific standard as long as we can see you are moving in the right direction.
