About editing pages

Jvvg obviously didn't give you the rundown...

Ok, so what is extremely important is that while the Ukranian wiki is a test wiki, you must do the following two things to every new article. Let's say that I'm talking about Ukr:Кіт Скретч, which I believe is a translation of Eng:Scratch Cat.

  1. Add
    {{:Eng:Scratch Cat/translate}}
to the top of the page
  2. Add
    |Ukr=Кіт Скретч
    into the {{Translate part of Eng:Scratch Cat/translate

The same applies for other pages - just replace "Scratch Cat" in that example with the original English page's title, and "Кіт Скретч" with the Ukranian title.

Could you instruct SimaKyr about this too? Thanks.

Ah, I just saw your guide for writing articles... two things I should say about it:
  1. The link to the main page is unnecessary. You should write all the articles as if they were already on a real wiki, except for the Ukr: linking. I recommend you remove that.
  2. Could you include the instructions above in that guide too? That is necessary to keep things organized.
Thanks!

Ok, I will do that! Thanks for giving me right tips! Camera Plus (talk) 07:16, 17 January 2019 (UTC)
Oof, it looks like I didn't express myself clearly enough - you add the |Ukr=Кіт Скретч as a line somewhere in the middle of the page Eng:Scratch Cat/translate, not in the translated page. https://test.scratch-wiki.info/w/index.php?title=Eng:Scratch_Cat/translate&action=edit <- here is where you add the Ukr=Кіт Скретч part.

Oof, I didnt understand that first, I'm sorry. But I have changed the guide and all pages right, check them. (Also thanks for being interested in our wiki and helping it to grow and be as good as other wikis!) Camera Plus (talk) 09:47, 17 January 2019 (UTC)
Google Translate to the rescue! (At least for me to read the guide)
Okay, from the bad machine translation of the guide page, it looks like you get the idea. :) I'll let you know (or you can find out yourself, through Special:RecentChanges) (or you might already know) when a new Ukranian user joins so you can guide them properly. By the way, as the main person with interest in this project, here are the main things I think you should be focusing on, in order of priority:
  1. Recruit new users - this is the most important, because without people a wiki is nothing. Once you have gotten a healthy number of people helping you out, you can:
  2. Translate existing English articles - before the Ukranian wiki starts manifesting its destiny, it needs to have a good amount of content already present. The easiest way to do this is to translate articles that are already there in English (creating new articles from nothing is difficult). You should probably direct any users you recruit in 1. to focus on this. Once most of the direct translation work is done, it's time to:
  3. Make improvements to existing Ukranian articles - look over the translated articles and see where they can be improved. If the Ukranian wiki reaches this point, it's probably time for it to become a real wiki - contact me once you think it's at that point.
I say in 3. that once you've finished translating existing English articles it's time to be real, but the most important criterion is the number and activity of Ukranian users, so again, focus on recruiting new users.
(You're welcome! I take personal interest in every test wiki, and my end goal is to see all of the test wikis become real. I wish you luck making the Ukranian wiki a healthy and active one!)

Okay, I will invite some Ukrainian Scratchers I know to join us and, probably, advertise my wiki. Oh, yeah, I want to ask: can I advertise my wiki on the forum (for example create a signature that has a link to the Ukr Wiki)? Camera Plus (talk) 10:16, 17 January 2019 (UTC)
Inviting Ukranian Scratchers: yes, good.
Advertising the ukwiki: good, as long as you don't make it annoying - make sure not to advertise where people say they don't want advertising.
Advertising on the forum: Post a topic about it in the Ukranian subforum, if there is one, explaining what it is and how people can join. (Keep in mind that I'm the one who processes account requests, so let me know if there's extra information I should look at when considering someone.)
Link to ukwiki in signature: yes, please do, I do the same for the Chinese wiki.

So here is extra info that I encourage people to write if they want to join ukwiki:
  1. What language they want to join (ukrainian)
  2. Why they want to join (for example, not enough people in the ukwiki)
That's all... Camera Plus (talk) 10:26, 17 January 2019 (UTC)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── What I look for in account requests is the following information:

  1. What language wiki they want to edit - for anyone you recommend, this will be Ukranian, obviously
  2. The title of a page they would create or edit first - this is to show that they have at least enough dedication to look at one or two Ukranian pages beforehand

Besides this, the account must be a Scratcher (not New Scratcher) and ideally the account should also be somewhat older (maybe 1-2 months old) just so that I know they have some Scratch experience - after all, it wouldn't be right for someone who doesn't know Scratch very well to contribute to a wiki about Scratch, right?

That's really it - as long as the request has the language and a page they want to edit, it will probably be accepted.

(By the way, according to Google I am 6 hours ahead of you - is it lunchtime for you now? :P)

I've created new category to talk about it Camera Plus (talk) 10:46, 17 January 2019 (UTC)

Ukrainian Scratch Wiki

Hi, User:Kenny2scratch. I've created new category, because we no more talking about page editing. ok, I will change guide (on my user: page) how to request account and add things you said before. (And yes, it is almost lunch, after it I'll go for a walk, so I wont answer as fast as I do now) Camera Plus (talk) 10:46, 17 January 2019 (UTC)

👌

Oh,and I also have one question. How can I translate templates? For example, I want to translate "blocks collections" template to ukrainian.

Camera Plus (talk) 11:28, 17 January 2019 (UTC)

Ah, yes. Let's say you want to translate the Template:Other version. According to Google Translate, "other version" in Ukranian is "інша версія"; therefore, you create the page Template:Ukr/інша версія. See? Ukr/ in front of the translated template name; and you use the template like {{Ukr/інша версія}}. Makes sense?

Ok, thanks! :D
Camera Plus (talk) 11:30, 17 January 2019 (UTC)
By the way, here is my first template Template:Ukr/Блок.
Camera Plus (talk) 12:08, 17 January 2019 (UTC)

Template titles should be translated too!

Hi, I saw you translated Template:About into Template:Ukr/about... but remember that page titles should be translated, and that applies to templates. According to Google Translate, "about" is "о" in Ukranian, but there were so many alternate translations that I'll let you decide what the title should be. Just remember to translate the title of the template as well.

(Also, I noticed it still links to "(disambiguation)" by default and not "(неоднозначності)" - that should be translated too.)
└─post by kenny2scratch (talk|contribs) 03:28, 18 January 2019 (UTC)

Remember that template titles still go under the prefixes, though... I saw the translation you decided on, so I slightly modified that and the Ukranian "about" template is now at Template:Ukr/про статтю. Its documentation should be created at Template:Ukr/про статтю/doc - don't move the original Template:About/doc page... Just FYI.

Ukrainian Scratch Wiki is Back!

Hi, people. I'm Camera_Plus, the creator of Ukrainian Scratch Wiki. And, unfortunatly, Scratch Wiki is stuck, and no articles has been added since January 20th to now (February 15th). But now work on the Scratch Wiki continues. I will be adding new article every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Starting today!
